Special Education Teacher - Autism (Adapted Curriculum)

Job Summary
Instruct elementary, middle, or high school students with Autism in basic academic subjects and living skills, utilizing current strategies to plan and implement lessons aligned with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP). Prepare course outlines and instructional materials according to state and local requirements, while observing and evaluating student progress to facilitate reevaluation referrals. Coordinate activities with speech, occupational, and physical therapists, assist students with assistive and orthopedic devices, and conduct parent conferences to review performance and behavior. Participate in faculty meetings and professional workshops, applying technology to enhance school operations. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, a teaching certificate, and Low Function Autism certification (GACE Tests 083/084 + 087/088), with a minimum of one year's teaching experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate education field
- teaching certificate in an area of Special Education
- Low Function Autism - Special Education Adaptive Curriculum & all five content areas (currently GACE Tests 083/084 + 087/088)
- Excellent classroom management
- Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day
- May require occasional travel to other school locations
- Lifting or carrying (35lbs) unassisted
- assist with heavy lifting or carrying (up to 100 lbs.)
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of one (1) year's teaching experience
