Job Summary
Special Education Teacher Assistant needed to support autistic students in a classroom setting. Collaborate with lead teachers to implement IEPs, deliver tailored instructional activities, provide one-on-one or small group support, monitor progress and behaviors, and help develop communication, social, and life skills. Requires strong communication, patience, empathy, teamwork, and familiarity with ABA techniques and assistive technologies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children, preferably with autism or other developmental disabilities
- Basic understanding of autism spectrum disorder and related educational strategies
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively within a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Post-secondary coursework or certification in special education, child development, or related field
- Experience implementing behavior intervention plans or applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques
- Training in autism-specific teaching methods or therapies
- First aid and CPR certification
- Familiarity with assistive technology and communication devices used by autistic students
