Job Summary
Assist, tutor, and or support special education student/students with the requirements of regular/special education classes. Provide one-on-one academic tutoring and socially appropriate modeling; assist with preparation of classroom materials; accompany students during classes and field trips as needed; inform teachers of any information impacting academic/social success; monitor progress and communicate with teachers; assist with medications as directed; learn to connect and use assistive technology; maintain confidentiality and follow safety procedures; participate in meetings and staff development; occasional travel within the school and evening/parent activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Possess high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency certificate
- College degree preferred
- Has completed the Virginia General Assembly training requirements for paraprofessionals or will complete within 60 days
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds
- Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Willing to learn how to connect and use assistive technology
- Maintains confidentiality
- Follows safety procedures
- Participates in staff development and meetings
- Maintains appropriate state licensure
