Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for designing and delivering individualized instruction aligned with NJDOE standards and IEPs, in a structured classroom that supports engagement, communication, independence, and daily living skills. Differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning and behavioral needs, implements positive behavior supports and proactive classroom management, utilizes assistive technology and augmentative communication, and collaborates with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators. Maintains progress documentation, participates in IEP meetings, communicates with families, and contributes to a professional, collaborative school culture. Requires NJ certification as TOH or TOSD and P–3 or Elementary K–6 endorsement; 4-year degree required; 48-week full-time role with compensation $58,000–$68,000 annually based on experience and education.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Valid New Jersey certification as Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) or Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) required
- New Jersey instructional endorsement in Preschool through Grade 3 (P–3) or Elementary K–6 required, consistent with DOE requirements
- Experience supporting students with developmental, communication, and behavioral needs in structured educational settings preferred
- Experience implementing positive behavior supports and structured classroom management practices preferred
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and organizational skills
- Successful completion of the New Jersey Department of Education Criminal History Background Check required
