Job Summary
Special Education Teacher at Barber Preparatory Academy (PK-8) within ACCEL Schools. Supports the educational and behavioral goals of all students with a focus on students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Responsibilities include working cooperatively with classroom teachers, interpreting abilities and disabilities, modifying general education curricula as necessary, conducting diagnostic and functional behavior assessments, writing and implementing behavior improvement plans, facilitating IEP meetings and writing IEP goals, pursuing student achievement and school culture goals, utilizing research-based planning and instruction, integrating culturally responsive teaching practices, serving as advisor to a cohort of students, and communicating with families about academic and social-emotional growth; participates in planning non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips; performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current state license
- Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards
- Experience working in a full room inclusion type model or Co-Teaching in a Resource Room model
- High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring
- High quality written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks (FBI/BCI)
- Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook
