Job Summary
Prepare and implement lesson plans that scaffold appropriately to the needs of students in core subject areas, directly addressing goals specified in Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Model consistent classroom management techniques and use Crisis Prevention Institute strategies to de-escalate students. Collaborate with educational clinicians to develop and execute classroom management plans, while reviewing and assessing student data to drive instruction. Welcome potential new students during trial days, author bi-weekly progress reports, and attend IEP meetings to submit supporting documentation. Oversee the assigned Teaching Assistant and inform student instruction based on individual learning profiles.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Special Education
- 1-3+ years of experience teaching students with special education needs
- New York State (or other US state) Certification in Special Education
Desired Qualifications
- Prior behavior management training preferred (CPI, or other methods)
- Prior experience working with students who exhibit emotional challenges preferred
