Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for coordinating the teaching program with site-based goals and district objectives; instructing and assisting students in motor, language, socio-emotional, and cognitive development; ensuring IEP objectives are completed; assisting students with special needs (e.g., feeding, moving non-ambulatory students, diapering, bathing); planning and directing instructional activities of educational assistants; delivering instruction one-on-one and in small groups; maintaining communication with educational assistants and teachers on student progress; arranging the classroom environment for safety and learning; delivering curriculum; applying conflict-resolution skills; developing goals for self and students; maintaining documentation and records; completing reports and attending meetings per contract; and complying with applicable state codes and district policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Current New Mexico Department of Education license appropriate to the teaching assignment with applicable endorsements or ability to obtain proper licensure within 90 days of hire
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Efficient organizational ability; Professional written and oral communication skills; Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters
