Job Summary
Develop and implement classroom instructional plans based on student IEPs and grade-level curricula while coordinating special strategies to reinforce skills. Create and modify materials to match individual student abilities, monitor progress toward academic and behavioral goals, and complete progress reports and IEP updates. Manage single and classroom behavior plans, oversee behavior data collection, and assist staff with crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation techniques. Work onsite Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, reporting to the Assistant Principal.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's Degree preferred) or subject area
- ability to work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6-21
- General education certification
- enrollment in a program that leads to special education certification
- NYS certification in Special Education or appropriate subject area
- enrollment in a program that leads to NYS teacher certification within one year of hire
