Special Education Sign Language Interpreter (9957 Sped)

Under the supervision of the program instructor(s) and/or the Program Administrator, the Sign Language Interpreter for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program will assist in the supervision of instructional and all other activities by interpreting and tutoring for the deaf/hard of hearing students on an individual as well as a small group basis. Transliterates and/or interprets information accurately in a manner appropriate to the student's communication level. Transliterating/interpreting and tutoring one-to-one and in groups. Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment aligned with course goals and curriculum outcomes. Evaluate and guide instruction to maximize each student's potential. Maintain data on student progress. Implement behavioral management strategies. Explain technical assistance needs for interpreting (lighting, visual aids, positioning, time). Attend inservices to stay current on deaf culture. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include meeting Washington State requirements for Sign Language Interpreters in Educational Settings; EIPA scores or NIC with written test; ability to communicate with students, staff, and parents; preferred experience with students and educational techniques; confidentiality; teamwork; willingness to participate in trainings. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities related to cultural competence and equity are also required.
