Job Summary
Assist special education teachers in implementing classroom programs, managing student behavior, and providing direct support for physical and instructional needs. Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community activities, while performing personal care tasks such as transferring, lifting, feeding, and assisting with hygiene. Maintain accurate records of students with disabilities, uphold confidentiality, and enforce school rules and administrative regulations. Adapt to individual student medical, physical, and emotional needs through in-service training and teacher direction. Participate in staff development and faculty meetings as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- May be required to lift or transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
- Possible exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
