Job Summary
Assist special education teachers in implementing classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction for students with disabilities. Provide physical and personal care, such as transferring, feeding, and hygiene support, while managing student behavior and crisis interventions. Supervise students throughout the school day, including bus duty and playground activities, and help prepare instructional materials and maintain classroom order. Uphold school policies, keep administrative records, and participate in staff development training. Requires two years of experience working with children and the ability to use physical restraint.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to use physical restraint
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Two years of experience working with children
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal)
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to lift students (regular heavy lifting)
- Ability to stoop, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
- Ability to read
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct
- Adherence to Professional Educators Code of Ethics
- Three references from former employers, college professors, or supervisors
- Two references from previous supervisors
