Job Summary
Paraprofessional role supporting students with emotional impairments, trauma history, and autism in a self-contained behavioral classroom. Assists a certified teacher with academically focused activities and non-instructional tasks, implements behavior support under supervision, helps set limits related to student behavior, utilizes physical management when necessary, responds to student behavioral needs per direction of Lead Teacher/BCBA, supervises transitions, models professional conduct, supports community-based vocational opportunities, prepares and grades materials, assists with supervision during transitions and field trips, and acts as a substitute classroom teacher when needed. Requires effective communication, confidentiality, reliability, teamwork, and willingness to learn new skills; high school diploma is required with associate degree preferred; able to lift up to 15 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma required; Associates degree or two years of college highly preferred
- Respect and maintain student and family confidentiality
- Cooperates successfully as a team member
- Communicates effectively with other members of the team including giving and receiving feedback (written and oral)
- Maintain regular attendance
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills, to carry out assignments, put in essential time and effort
- Perform delegated duties with level of expertise and assume responsibility for own professional development
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Under teacher direction, assist in preparation of classroom materials
- Under teacher direction, correct and/or grade student class work
- Perform as appropriate role model to students at all times
- Under supervision of teaching staff, direct physical education classes and art classes on an as needed basis
