Job Summary

Work with students to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher. Meet and assist the teacher in developing special strategies based on individual student needs, interests, and abilities. Carry out classroom instructional support and activities as directed, while maintaining a safe and orderly environment conducive to student learning. Alert the teacher or administrator to any problems or special information regarding individual students. Maintain good rapport with students, parents, teachers, and administration to ensure a positive, welcoming learning environment. Perform other duties consistent with the job goal of student safety and learning, including traversing the campus to lead students to safety in emergencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have successfully earned a Bachelor or Associate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must have taken and passed the Work Keys test prior to June 1, 2017
  • Must have ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a passing score of 460 (after June 1, 2017)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • Ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Personal computer skills necessary
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Must be able to traverse about school campus and lead students to safety in case of emergency
  • Must be able to push or lift up to 50 lbs
  • Close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material
  • Ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to meet multiple demands from several people
  • Ability to interact with the public and other staff
  • Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality

Desired Qualifications

  • CPI training preferred
