Job Summary
Special Education Paraprofessional assists teachers in meeting the educational, emotional, and physical needs of students with disabilities. Supports students through daily activities with a balanced approach to learning, aiming for age- and grade-appropriate behavior and thinking, and helps implement the IEP. Positions are assigned to the building-wide program and may move within the school at the principal’s discretion. Work hours are 31.25 per week, Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–2:15 pm, with a starting wage of $19.61–$22.25 per hour plus benefits. A valid high school diploma or equivalent and relevant ParaPro/credits are required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of college
- Passing score on the ParaPro assessment
- Experience as a teacher's assistant in a teaching environment or related childcare work
- Ability to work cooperatively with children and adults
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to observe and record accurately
- Ability to understand and correct student assignments
- Ability to meet federal/state guidelines and complete specified in-service courses
- Demonstrated ability to work positively with students with disabilities under supervision of a special education teacher
