Job Summary
The Special Education Paraprofessional will assist teachers in enhancing student learning and academic performance. Responsibilities include providing small group instruction, preparing weekly reports on student progress, and collaborating with classroom instructors on instructional materials. Candidates must have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate’s degree, with a focus on supporting students in reading, writing, and mathematics. Professional development participation is required as mandated by federal law.
Required Qualifications
- Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Obtained an associate’s degree
- Demonstrated ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics through a formal assessment
- Proficient in English and another language (if applicable)
- Met all applicable state certification requirements
Additional Requirements
- All Title I Paraprofessionals hired after January 8, 2002 must meet federal requirements
- Paraprofessionals hired before January 8, 2002 must meet requirements within four years
