Job Summary
Assist students under direct supervision of classroom teachers in managing instruction, maintaining discipline, and creating conducive learning environments. Provide hands-on support with personal possessions, specialized equipment, and assistive devices. Accompany students to restrooms, recess, and other classes while assisting with feeding, diapering, toileting, and medical needs such as catheterization and medication administration after training. Maintain student confidentiality, organize instructional materials, and adjust wheelchairs or equipment as necessary. Attend faculty meetings, parent conferences, and IEP meetings when requested. Participate in grade-level meetings and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
- Passed the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Para-Pro Assessment (ETS Para-Pro Assessment #0755) with a passing score of 450
- Completed two years of full-time study (48 semester credit hours) from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education (as defined by requirements in No Child Left Behind legislation) with 9 hours of ELA and 9 hours of Math coursework
- Earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education that includes 9 hours of ELA and 9 hours of Math coursework
- High school graduate of GED
- At least twenty years of age
- Score at tenth grade level on the California Achievement Test or other test as designated
