Job Summary
Special Education Paraeducator at the Support Center supports academic instruction for students with disabilities and implements a modified curriculum that may include functional academics, daily living skills, prevocational/vocational skills, behavior skills, and social skills. The role requires meeting paraeducator employment criteria: at least 18 years old, a high school diploma or equivalent, and one of several credential/education options (including an associate degree or higher, 72 quarter credits/48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher, ParaPro or Pearson Paraprofessional assessments, Master Teacher Inc. training, or an approved apprenticeship). Documentation of qualification must be uploaded, and staff must complete state requirements for the General Paraeducator Certificate (28 hours FCS training within four months of hire and 70 clock hours of professional development). The position operates within the PSD Education Support Professionals framework, with emphasis on classroom instruction, program modification, and skill development across multiple domains. Required Qualifications
- Be at least eighteen years of age
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher from an accredited college or university OR Score 455 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment (ETS) OR Score 220 or higher on the Pearson Paraprofessional assessment (not administered by PSD) OR Score 65% or higher on The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program (not administered by PSD) OR Complete an apprenticeship as a paraeducator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
- Provide documentation verifying meeting stated requirements (official college transcript or passing score on the listed assessments)
- Completion of the state-mandated General Paraeducator Certificate
- Staff must complete 28 hours of training on the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) within four months of hire and the second two days within six months (or by Sept 1 of the next school year), culminating in 70 clock hours of professional development to earn the general certificate
- Be prepared to obtain the Paraeducator Certificate Program's statewide standards-based training for ESPs and pursue career growth ladders as applicable
- Expedite employment processing by providing a minimum of 3 professional references from current/former supervisors with contact details
