Job Summary
Assist teachers with educational activities, including monitoring pupils in classrooms, supervising students on field trips and recess, and preparing instructional materials using computers and audiovisual equipment. Implement and monitor students' Individual Education Plans while administering tests, recording results, and charting remedial measures. Provide academic support, reinforce learning skills, and perform personal care duties for students with disabilities as needed. Manage student welfare and safety by making quick decisions, counseling students regarding conduct, and supervising areas such as the lunchroom, halls, and bus loading/unloading. Complete Medicaid documentation, report incidents to administration, and fill in for staff absences as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age
- Knowledge or the ability to be trained to meet the responsibilities of the job
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to operate typical office equipment, such as telephones, computers, copier, fax machines, e-mail, etc
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
- Ability to establish a positive relationship with students, staff and families
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor/administrator
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with school age children in the education setting preferred
- Para-educator certification preferred
