Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Special Education instructor and building principal, provide special education services and supports to elementary and secondary students eligible for special education. Deliver one-to-one and group instruction to meet individualized education program goals, assist in establishing the learning environment, and assess student progress to ensure alignment with IEP objectives. Implement behavioral management strategies, administer and score formal and informal tests, and maintain accurate data on student performance. Address physical student needs including bathroom care, feeding, handling body fluids, and lifting or positioning students as required. Assist students with assistive technology and devices, and provide services as directed by related services providers such as OT, PT, and SLP. Attend training sessions to maintain up-to-date understanding of student needs.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS)
- Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
- Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council)
- Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility, initiative, and cooperativeness
- Must possess physical strength and ability to deal with potentially aggressive behavior of students
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. individually
- Must be able to lift and/or position students as necessary
- Must be able to handle body fluids as necessary
- Must be able to feed students as necessary
- Must be able to address student's bathroom needs as is necessary, including lifting and changing students when required
- Must possess vision (66-100%)

- Must have demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Must have demonstrated ability or willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology
- Must have demonstrated ability or willingness to learn to operate the office equipment as listed above
- Must have demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption
- Must have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team
- Must have knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others

- Must participate in activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence
