Required Qualifications

• •High school graduation or equivalent
• •ETS Paraeducator Assessment
• •Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts)
• •72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts)
• •Completed a registered apprenticeship program (certificate)
• •Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company
• •First AID/CPR certification
• •Completion of specified courses related to the General Paraeducator Certificate as identified by OSPI
• •Understanding of the basics of child development and the behavior of children
• •Knowledge of reading, writing and arithmetic
• •Understanding of safety procedures for students and staff
• •Understanding of behavior modification programs, including restraint techniques
• •Utilization of adaptive technology and equipment to meet student needs
• •Demonstration of non-violent crisis intervention techniques, including de-escalation strategies as needed for the specific assignment
• •Utilization of basic therapy techniques and procedures
• •Knowledge of functional life skills/activities of daily living, including tube-feeding and toileting
• •Demonstration of proper lifting techniques
• •Effective oral and written communication skills
• •Ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner
• •Appropriate techniques related to activities of daily living and proper lifting techniques as required
• •Ability to work effectively as member of a team
• •Ability to follow oral and written directions
• •Ability to model and monitor appropriate student behavior
• •Maintenance of confidentiality and respect between students, parents and teachers
• •Maintenance of positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the public
• •Ability to perform all physical activities and meet all physical requirements indicated above
• •Ability to perform activities of daily living including feeding and toileting by various means
• •Ability to provide appropriate care for students who experience seizures
• •Ability to provide proper physical restraint of students with severe behavior that poses a danger to themselves or others
• •Demonstration of multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• •Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• •Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
• •Mandatory continuing professional education per state requirements
• •Verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States
• •Satisfactory results of background checks with prior employers/professional references
• •Satisfactory outcome of a criminal history background check (includes fingerprinting)
• •Satisfactory outcome of sexual misconduct information from prior school district employers
• •Approval by the Bellevue School Board
• •Ability to stoop, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
• •Exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects
• •Ability to handle moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises
• •Demonstration of fitness to perform the essential duties of the position
