Job Summary
Special Education Multi-Disabled Aide position (Secondary) under the Lee County Board of Education. The role supports students with disabilities for more than half the school day, providing physical assistance and emotional support within the district’s special education program. Key duties include assisting with occupational and/or physical therapy, feeding and self-help tasks, toileting and personal hygiene, mobility around campus, handling assistive technology devices, and supporting instructional activities under supervision. Requires regular attendance, collaboration with teachers and staff, adherence to board policies and anti-harassment program, and a nine-month contract with a work day up to 7.5 hours. Qualifications emphasize a high school diploma or GED with acceptable additional education/assessment options, and successful completion of background checks. Physical demands include lifting 20–25 pounds and varied movement; environment may include exposure to illnesses and varying conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one of the following: Completion of 48 semester hours at an accredited college or university; OR An associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with at least 64 semester hours of study or two years of coursework; OR An appropriate score on the ACT WorkKeys Paraprofessional Assessment Tests to meet the required federal standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
