Job Summary
Special Education Math Teacher responsible for delivering grade-level/content-area instruction to students with disabilities in Mount Vernon, NY. Requires NYS certification in Special Education (SWD 1-6 or SWD 7-12/Content Area 7-12). Responsibilities include teaching, case management of IEPs, progress monitoring, collaboration with guidance counselors and general education staff, developing engaging instructional experiences, establishing an effective classroom climate, and participating in committees to improve programs. Strong emphasis on applying diverse instructional strategies, managing records, and partnering with parents to support student growth and achievement.
Required Qualifications
- Appropriate NYS Certification in Special Education, SWD 1-6, or SWD 7-12/Content Area 7-12
- Case management responsibilities under IEP
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and coordinate with general education teachers and school staff
- Provide educational experiences enabling students to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and study skills
- Establish classroom climate conducive to learning and manage instructional time effectively
- Collaborate with guidance counselors and instructional teams on student-specific problems
- Communicate with parents and participate in school committees to improve educational programs
