Job Summary
Develop and implement social and academic programs according to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while collaborating with parents and staff. Consistently assess student progress through formal and informal testing, modify classroom environments to maximize success, and provide personal care or medical supervision as required. Manage student behavior, create safe learning spaces, and coordinate programming across multiple educational settings with various interventions. Maintain emotional control under stress, complete all required reports and records, and participate in faculty meetings and in-service training.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid Texas Teacher's Certificate with appropriate endorsement for teaching area
- Ability to develop IEP and participate in ARD process
- Knowledge of curriculum
- Knowledge of special needs of students
- Knowledge of policies and practices addressing specific duties and responsibilities of assigned position, i.e. Lead Special Education Teacher, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Adaptive Physical Education Teacher
- At least one (1) year of student teaching or approved internship
- Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress
- Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making
- Coordinate programming for students in a variety of educational settings with multiple interventions
- Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
