Job Summary
Provide direct support to special education teachers and school administration in resource, self-contained, and general education settings. Support teachers as they develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. Guide special education teachers in adapting curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs using instructional strategies, assistive technology, and behavioral interventions. Assess and monitor students' progress toward IEP goals and participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and interdisciplinary team meetings. Provide guidance on best practices and assist in creating a safe, inclusive learning environment while complying with all district policies and professional standards.
Required Qualifications
- SC certification in Learning Disabilities or Multi-Categorical, or appropriate certification
- Strong GPA in relevant course work
- Experience with teaching special education students in a special education setting
- Experience with supporting others with classroom instruction and behavior management
- Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
- Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
- Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Exceptional knowledge of the needs of special students
- Knowledge of IDEA regulations, IEP development, and specialized instructional strategies
- Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
- Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction
- Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public
- Understanding a child's behavior and dynamics
- Skilled in problem solving and patience
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work
- Ability to effectively attend to the special needs of exceptional children
- Ability to read and assess student work
- Ability to view computer screens
- Ability to monitor student behavior visually
- Ability to hear student questions and school announcements
- Clear verbal communication and strong listening skills
- Ability to project voice in noisy environments or large classrooms
- Use of hands to write on boards, type, handle classroom materials, and operate technology
- Ability to lift or carry instructional materials, textbooks, or student work (typically up to 20 lbs.)
- Must be able to stand or walk around the classroom
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while planning lessons or grading
- Must manage interpersonal dynamics, conflicts, and communications in a professional and respectful way
- Three professional references with at least one supervisory reference
- Copy of the appropriate credentials
