Job Summary
Administer first aid and medications, perform health services, and assist with crisis intervention and physical restraints. Support teachers by tutoring students, reinforcing instruction, preparing lessons, scoring tests, and monitoring behavior. Provide personal hygiene assistance, set up work areas, operate audio-visual equipment, and direct group activities including lunchroom and playground supervision. Monitor student behavior, assist with lab work, and participate in instructional team meetings and in-service training. Ensure student health and safety while performing routine clerical duties such as record-keeping and material preparation. Maintain regular attendance and apply child guidance principles to foster supportive learning environments for students.
Required Qualifications
- 48 college semester hours
- Associate's Degree
- High school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam
- Proof of educational requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to physically restrain and control a student up to 150 pounds with assistance
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to learn child guidance principles and practices
- Ability to communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff and the public including members of ethnic communities
- Ability to print and write legibly
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to learn procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to learn to apply and explain policies and procedures related to school and program activities
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to monitor, observe and report students behavior according to approved policies and procedures
- Ability to operate instructional and office equipment
