Job Summary
Instructional Assistants provide support under licensed staff supervision to instruct and supervise students, often in 1:1 or small-group settings, including work in the Structured Learning Center or general classrooms. Responsibilities include implementing lesson plans and instructional activities, administering tests, teaching library skills, planning materials, monitoring safety and behavior, maintaining student files and equipment, performing limited clerical tasks related to instruction, and communicating with parents and staff. The role requires flexibility, patience, and a belief that every learner can grow, with duties that may involve supporting students with significant disabilities and needs, de-escalating behavioral situations, and tracking behavior for IEP case management. English/Spanish bilingual skills are preferred; ability to work as part of an instructional team and adapt to various instructional tasks is essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 72 quarter credits of college coursework (equivalent to an Associate's Degree) or CBEST or PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment
- Official transcripts upon hire
- Experience with school age children
- Skills: instructional activities, communication with parents/students/staff, basic arithmetic, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form
- Knowledge of child development and instructional processes
- Abilities to work on instructional team, flexibility with students and tasks, sit/stand for prolonged periods, follow instructions, maintain confidentiality, meet schedules, read/interpret rules and regulations, rapidly learn instructional materials
- English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred
- Drug screening, post-offer physical abilities assessment, nationwide background check including fingerprinting
