Job Summary
Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups, monitor and report student progress, and participate as a member of an instructional team including remediation teams. Prepare and organize lessons as directed, administer and score assessments, and maintain records of student progress while monitoring behavior according to approved procedures. Provide support by setting up work areas, operating audio-visual equipment, distributing supplies, and overseeing students in labs. Confers with teachers regarding programs and materials, assures student health and safety, and directs group activities during assigned times such as lunchroom, playground, and field trips. Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the public while performing routine clerical duties and adhering to district codes of ethics.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma
- G.E.D. Certificate
- One year experience in working with children in an organized setting
- Successful completion of Federal/State Required Skills Exam
- Basic subjects taught in the District schools, includes arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading
- Safe practices in classroom and playground activities
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Perform as a support person such that student achievement is maximized
