Job Summary
Provide one-to-one assistance to students with special needs, enabling them to meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives. Enrich or reinforce instruction in inclusion classrooms by duplicating materials, preparing resources, and delivering strategies in individual or small group settings. Support student interpersonal development and academic growth while managing medical and hygienic needs such as toileting, diapering, and oral feeding. Work under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher to maintain required records, correct tests, and ensure adherence to Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards. Participate in staff in-service programs as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Deemed Highly Qualified according to MSDE standards by possessing an Associate's Degree, 48 college credits, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional examination
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with special needs
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to accept supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in a classroom setting preferred
