Job Summary
Special Education Instructional Assistant position working under the general direction of certified classroom teachers and/or administrators to monitor, assist, and provide support for students with special needs to implement individualized education programs (IEPs). Duties include assisting with extensive physical and/or personal care, setting up and adapting materials and equipment, documenting student progress, facilitating progress toward independence, monitoring during educational and recreational activities, assisting with routine care and crisis intervention as needed, supporting classroom accessibility, and performing clerical tasks. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and ability to lift (up to 50 lbs); 10-month calendar (190 days/year) with 7 hours per day. Priorities include collaborating with staff, participating in professional development, assisting with assessments, and attending IEP and staff meetings. Location: Middletown Elementary School (Frederick County Public Schools).
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 48 college credits, AA degree, or passing exams (ParaPathways, Pearson NES: Foundations of Classroom Support, or Pearson NES: Foundations of Classroom Support & Instruction)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form
- Working knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics
- Willingness to participate in training or professional development
- Capable of performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations
- Regular and predictable attendance
