Job Summary
Under the general direction of one or more certified classroom teachers and/or school administrator(s), Special Education Instructional Assistants monitor, assist, and provide support for students with special needs to implement the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Assistance to the student(s) may include extensive physical and/or personal care support. All duties/responsibilities are performed under the direction of a special education teacher. The ability to lift may be required based on student needs. Essential functions include documenting student progress, setting up/adapting materials and assistive devices, facilitating progress toward independence, assisting with routine physical/personal care, monitoring IEP goals, coordinating with teachers/administrators, assisting with assessments, attending IEP/staff meetings, providing clerical support, and participating in professional development. Must maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively; capable of working in a team; may require lifting up to 50 lbs; 7 hours/day, 190 days/year.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Note: 48 college credits, AA degree, or passing one of the following exams (ParaPathways, Pearson NES: Foundations of Classroom Support, or Pearson NES: Foundations of Classroom Support & Instruction)
