Job Summary
Special Education Coordinator responsible for identifying and supporting students with special education needs through services aligned to IEPs, coordinating pull-out services, scheduling and chairing team and pre-referral meetings, conducting academic testing and classroom observations, ensuring teachers implement accommodations, maintaining student records, and ensuring compliance with state and federal special education laws. Maintains curriculum design and rigorous assessments, uses data to refine instruction, collaborates with staff to support students academically and developmentally, and contributes to a culture of rigor and support across Uncommon Schools in Boston, NYC, Newark, Camden, and Rochester. Requires Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred), special education certification, and MA licensure with MTELs; urban public/charter school teaching experience is preferred. Compensation ranges from $76,000 to $121,000 with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
- Special Education teaching certification required
- Massachusetts special education license with MTELs for relevant areas (Communication & Literacy, SEI Endorsement, Subject Specific)
- Moderate Disabilities license
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
