Job Summary
Special Education Coordinator responsible for leading and coordinating K-12 SPED programs across Uncommon Schools locations. Duties include overseeing IEP and 504 development and meetings, coordinating pull-out/push-in/small group/one-on-one instruction, conducting evaluations and classroom observations, ensuring compliance with city/state/federal SPED laws, maintaining student records and reports for regulatory agencies, collaborating with general education teachers, families, and school leadership, and using data to differentiate instruction and set annual IEP goals. Requires a bachelor’s degree and NJ certification eligibility; prior urban-SPED experience and familiarity with IEP/504 processes strongly preferred. Strong collaboration, advocacy for students, and commitment to social-emotional and academic development are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NJ state certification eligibility requirements (teacher certification not prerequisite in NJ)
- Complete within a reasonable period after start of employment
- 1-2 years experience in urban schools or KS SPED preferred
- Experience with IEP/504 planning, assessments, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
