Job Summary
Special Education Coordinator overseeing academic, emotional, and physical services for students at risk of underperformance within Uncommon Schools’ charter network. Responsibilities include identifying students’ special education needs, reviewing intake assessments, scheduling pull-out services, chairing team and pre-referral meetings, conducting academic and psychological testing, coordinating classroom observations, ensuring teachers understand accommodations required by IEPs, delivering targeted instruction, maintaining student records and preparing regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with state and federal special education law, contributing to curriculum design, creating standards-based assessments, and collaborating with teachers and administrators to support students’ progression from under-resourced neighborhoods toward high school and college.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Master’s degree is preferred
- Special Education teaching certification required
- Massachusetts special education license with MTELs
- SEI Endorsement
- Moderate Disabilities license
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
