Job Summary
Develop specialized instruction for students with disabilities by implementing designated curriculum from Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and maintaining required lesson plans. Facilitate home-school communication through conferences, telephoning, and written correspondence while managing the classroom environment to ensure safety and appropriate student behavior. Collect and maintain accurate student records, follow system policies, and collaborate cooperatively with administrators, support personnel, colleagues, and parents. Serve as a role model demonstrating correct language use and professional teaching practices in accordance with state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Education
- Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to apply sound educational principles to various classroom situations
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
- Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service
- Must serve as a role model to students
- Must be at work on time
- Must meet attendance standards
- Must conduct activities safely
- Must be able to walk
- Must be able to stand
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to crouch or kneel
- Must be able to lift or assist in lifting students
