Job Summary
Special Education Assistant (Program) at Ella Baker PK-8 provides support services to students with moderate to severe disabilities, assists staff in developing and implementing individualized instructional activities, promotes independence and inclusion, and supports behavior management and data collection. Responsibilities include assisting with learning processes, applying behavioral plans, monitoring and recording student progress, assisting with daily hygiene and transitions, supporting community and vocational activities, and communicating with parents. The role requires collaboration with Special Education and English Language Learner supports, with bilingual designations for multiple languages (e.g., Amharic, Somali, Spanish). Qualifications include HS diploma or GED (with college-credit requirements or ParaPro as applicable) and at least two years of paid experience with children; additional licenses/training such as First Aid/CPR/AED and de-escalation training are required within specified timeframes.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Monitors completion of 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits in Education, Child Development, Behavioral Sciences or educational area related to position assignment; OR Passing score of 460 on the ParaPro Assessment; AND Two (2) years of paid experience working with children; OR Equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
