Job Summary
Special Education Assistant supports instructional activities under the direct guidance of the classroom teacher, assisting students with disabilities in academic and nonacademic skills, preparing instructional materials, collecting student data, maintaining records, assisting with IEP implementation, supervising students on buses, and performing related clerical and classroom duties. The role may involve lifting or assisting with personal hygiene, data collection, use of district resources, and ensuring confidentiality and ethical behavior. Requires high school diploma with Bachelor’s degree preferred and compliance with background checks and drug screening; may operate a motor vehicle and support district goals as an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- “Highly Qualified” (Praxis test or 48 hours of college credit, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree)
- Sufficient experience to provide services with appropriate training
- Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen
- Ability to perform essential functions with lifting and personal hygiene activities
- Possession of or ability to obtain appropriate attendance record and neat dress code compliance
