Job Summary

Communicate with instructional teams regarding student daily performance and assist students individually or in groups with specific instructional tasks and special needs accommodations. Support students in learning equipment use, test-taking, social behaviors, and communication while encouraging engagement in activities like field trips. Supervise students during snack, lunch, and outdoor campus activities, and assist with mobility, self-feeding, grooming, and toileting needs including lifting and cleaning. Maintain educational records and perform clerical duties related to special education programs. Work 6 hours daily, Monday through Friday, for 193 calendar days under general supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • high school diploma
  • official transcripts showing at least two years of college (48 units) or an AA degree
  • a passing score on our online proficiency exam (CBEST accepted in lieu of)
  • Successful completion of the Instructional Assistant Proficiency Examination
  • hold appropriate certification for the position
  • Knowledge of the appropriate subject matter, program and special instructional or communication procedures
  • Knowledge of the individual differences in children
  • Knowledge of Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and mathematics
  • Knowledge of General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
  • Knowledge of General needs relative to students who are physically challenged and/or severely emotionally disturbed students
  • Knowledge of Techniques of learning reinforcement and behavior modification for students
  • Knowledge of Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of students with special needs
  • Skill in Applying special instructional or communication procedures
  • Skill in Following oral and written directions
  • Skill in Communicating clearly both orally and in writing
  • Skill in Recordkeeping
  • Skill in Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with school staff, students and parents
  • Skill in Reading, writing and arithmetic
  • Skill in Keeping school and student matters confidential
  • Understanding and appropriately responding to the needs of all students
  • Possess a genuine liking for students
  • Ability to Perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation
  • Ability to Learn to interpret rules, policies, regulations and policies
  • A valid California Driver's License
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to meet proficiency requirements as set forth in applicable state and federal laws and District Annual Notices (i.e. Mandated Reporting, Blood Borne Pathogen)
  • Must successfully pass the District's pre-employment fingerprinting and TB testing
  • Sufficient vision to monitor students during activities and to read instructional materials
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide assistance to students and staff
  • Frequently walking, reaching, holding with arms, bending at the waist, crouching and/or squatting to assist students
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to assist students and to operate specialized equipment or office equipment
  • Pushing wheelchairs
  • Lifting and/or manipulating objects or persons, and/or use of motion up to 25 lbs. or equivalent with or without assistance by another individual and/or with or without the assistance of devices designed to support the lifting effort
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be available for 6 Hours Daily (M-F)
  • Must be available for 193 Calendar Days
