Job Summary
Special Education Assistant II at Northgate High School providing specialized instructional support in varied special education settings (pre K-12 and adult) under supervision. Responsibilities include assisting with instructional tasks, supporting students with disabilities in learning and using equipment or instructional media, reinforcing positive social behaviors, transporting students to and from buses, supervising and supporting students during meals and outdoor activities, maintaining confidential records, and performing related clerical duties. Requires high school diploma plus college coursework or AA degree or CBEST in lieu, a valid California driver’s license may be required, and completion of mandated trainings; travel between locations may be required. Emphasis on supporting students with autism, emotional disturbances, and diverse needs; ability to follow instructions, communicate with staff and parents, and adapt to varied disabilities; knowledge of reinforcement techniques and classroom procedures; proficiency in safeguarding student confidentiality. Environment is school-based with physical demands including lifting up to 25 lbs and occasional movement; pre-employment fingerprinting and TB testing required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Official transcripts showing at least two years of college (48 units) or AA degree
- Passing score on CBEST (or equivalent proficiency exam)
- Proficiency requirements per state/federal law and District Annual Notice
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (every 2 years)
- Ability to meet pre-employment fingerprinting and TB testing
