Job Summary
Special Education Assistant II provides instructional support in various special education settings under supervision, assisting with individual/group tasks, helping students with special needs use instructional equipment and tests, facilitating social behavior development through positive reinforcement, transporting students to buses and events, supporting field trips and extracurricular activities, supervising meals and outdoor activities, aiding in self-care and mobility, maintaining confidential records, and traveling between locations as needed. Requires high school diploma with additional college coursework or equivalent, and relevant certifications; duties include collaboration with instructional team, adapting tasks to individual student needs, and complying with safety and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma; 48 college units or AA degree or CBEST/proficiency exam required
- Proficiency in instructional support for pre K-12 and adult students with special needs
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (every 2 years)
- Possession of valid California Driver’s License may be required
- Successful completion of fingerprinting and TB testing as part of employment process
Desired Qualifications
- Instructional Assistant Proficiency Examination
- CBEST acceptable in lieu of proficiency exam
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (every 2 years)
- High school diploma plus either 48 college units or AA degree or proficiency exam
- Experience working with students in special education settings (minimum 1 year preferred)
