Job Summary
Communicate regularly with the instructional team regarding student daily performance and assist students with special needs in group or individual instructional tasks. Support learners in using special equipment, taking tests, and developing appropriate social behaviors through positive reinforcement techniques. Supervise students during snack, lunch, and outdoor activities, and assist with loading and unloading students from buses and transferring them to classrooms or events. Maintain records and perform clerical duties related to special education programs while encouraging engagement in social activities like field trips.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma
- official transcripts showing at least two years of college (48 units) or an AA degree
- a passing score on our online proficiency exam (CBEST accepted in lieu of)
- Successful completion of the Instructional Assistant Proficiency Examination
- appropriate certification for the position
- Commitment to complete two required training courses or inservices within the first six months of being hired
- Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid
- A valid California Driver's License
Desired Qualifications
- one year experience working with students
- one year of college-level coursework in a field related to the particular assignment
- Knowledge of the appropriate subject matter, program and special instructional or communication procedures
- Knowledge of the individual differences in children
- Knowledge of Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and mathematics
- Knowledge of General classroom procedures, practices and equipment
- Skill in Applying special instructional or communication procedures
- Skill in Following oral and written directions
- Skill in Communicating clearly both orally and in writing
- Skill in Recordkeeping and providing clerical support duties
- Skill in Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with school staff, students and parents
- Skill in Reading, writing and arithmetic
- Skill in Keeping school and student matters confidential
- Ability to Perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation
- Ability to Learn and interpret rules, policies, regulations and procedures
