Job Summary
Assist teachers in the instructional setting by maintaining classroom discipline, supervising students, and implementing Individual Education Plan (IEP) modifications. Provide direct support to students with special needs, including reading aloud, using computers, and administering medications within district policies. Manage student activities across the playground, cafeteria, and hallways while preparing clerical and instructional materials. Maintain accurate records, ensuring strict confidentiality, and assist with toileting, wheelchair transfers, and personal care needs as required.
Required Qualifications
- Must meet current highly qualified requirements
- Current NCLB requirements (paraprofessional certification)
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing fluently in English
- Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and area
- Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, teaching software, and word processing software
- Emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and control all aspects of the job
- Regularly required to talk or hear
- Regularly uses hands for fine manipulation, hands or feet, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to smell, walk or stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally required to climb or balance
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities this job requires include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Able to speak clearly to be understood and to understand the speech of others
