Job Summary
Special Education Assistant in a self-contained classroom supports the Special Education Teacher with instructional objectives and behavioral goals. Duties include assisting with classroom activities, small/large group instruction, behavior modification, and mobility/personal care tasks (e.g., lifting, diapering, toileting). Responsibilities also cover monitoring safety across environments, assisting with meal/breakfast/lunch cleanup, maintaining records, and traveling between schools as needed. Strong emphasis on collaboration with teachers, therapists or pathologists, and maintaining confidentiality and supportive relationships with students with disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associates Degree or passing score on Para Professional Praxis
- Some experience working with students with disabilities (preferred)
- Must be Highly Qualified (Praxis or college coursework options)
- FLSA Status: Non-exempt
