Job Summary
Special Education Assistant (1:1) for ASL interpretation provides 1:1 student support for children with moderate to severe disabilities, assists MPS staff to facilitate educational functions, and helps maintain a safe, productive learning environment. Responsibilities include reinforcing learning, supporting individual instruction and behavior, documenting observations, assisting with transitions and daily care (meals, medications, hygiene), and assisting in community, recreational, school and vocational activities. Requires relevant education/credentials (associate degree or higher or 90 credits plus two years’ experience) and First Aid/CPR/AED, CPI, and Special Education Orientation within one year.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Education or closely related area
- Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits from an accredited institution
- A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Two (2) years of professional experience working with children.
- First Aid/CPR/AED, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, and Special Education Orientation is required within one year.
