Job Summary
Special Education Aide- Transitions- ASD in Grand Rapids, MI provides team-based support for scholars with disabilities. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies for individual and group behavioral management and transitioning goals; assisting in instruction and preparation of materials; participating in IEP-related activities and school events; assisting with transportation and supervision of students on and off campus (including pool activities under supervision); implementing community-based instructional programs; supporting medical, adaptive daily living, and self-care tasks; lifting and transferring scholars as needed; ensuring safety and order during school day activities; performing record-keeping tasks (attendance, behavior planning, Medicaid billing for personal care services, files, and information sent home); and communicating effectively with co-workers, parents, and the community. Must meet minimum education/assessment requirements and have the ability to work in varied conditions; preferred bachelor’s degree. The role emphasizes dependable attendance, professionalism, and a positive role modeling. ADA accommodations information provided by Human Resources. The wage is determined by the collective bargaining agreement.
Required Qualifications
- Completed a minimum of 60 college credits earned
- or obtained an associate’s degree or higher
- or obtained a passing score on an MDE approved ETS Paraprofessional assessment
- Preferred Qualification: Bachelor’s degree
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
- Must be capable of safely restraining scholars when necessary in accordance with approved protocols
- Must be able to enter and participate in swimming and/or pool activities with students
- Must be able to provide supervision during field trips, activities, and while transporting students
- Must be able to physically push wheelchairs and assist with lifting and transferring students
- Ability to supervise scholars to ensure a safe environment
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with confidential information
- Ability to work in a diverse environment
