Job Summary
Special Education Aide supports students with disabilities inside and outside the classroom, helping implement IEPs with self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs under supervision of certified staff. Responsibilities include supervising students across the day (lunchroom, bus, playground), assisting with instructional material preparation and behavioral interventions, working with individual students and small groups, documenting services, aiding with testing and technology integration, supporting social-emotional learning and crisis intervention, maintaining equipment and SHARS-related billing, assisting with augmentative/assistive communication devices, helping with student transfers (including lifting and positioning), and orienting substitutes. Virtual/online duties and professional development participation are also included. Qualifications require HS diploma/GED or higher, 48 college hours, paraprofessional certification, CPR/NCI training, familiarity with OT/PT equipment, and proficient English communication.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or higher; forty-eight (48) hours from an accredited college or university; have experience working with students and parents.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).
- Acquire certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Heimlich maneuver, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within available district training calendar.
- Must be familiar with/able to use Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy (OT/PT) apparatus.
- Must be able to communicate, listen, read, write, and comprehend the English language sufficiently to use it easily and readily in daily communication.
