Job Summary
Assist the teacher with planning, preparing, and developing instructional materials while considering individual student needs, abilities, and physical limitations. Help manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed. Support students with physical disabilities by assisting with transfers, lifting, and positioning, and provide personal care such as feeding and hygiene. Maintain a neat classroom, keep administrative records, and supervise students throughout the day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Adhere to school rules, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements while attending required in-services.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English
- Forty-eight (48) university, college and/or vocational level hours with core subjects from an accredited institution of higher education
- Associate's (or higher) Official Transcript/Diploma
- Experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent
- Experience in work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed daycare centers, or similar experience
- Current Full-Time Brownsville ISD employee
- Valid Educational Aide Certification
- Met a rigorous standard quality
- Demonstrated, through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge and ability to assist in instruction
