Job Summary
Assist students with physical disabilities, including transferring, lifting, and assisting with personal care like feeding and hygiene. Support the teacher by preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom order, and managing administrative records. Supervise students during lunch, bus rides, and playground duty while intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive students as needed. Help manage behavior, adapt interaction methods to individual student needs, and provide orientation to substitute teachers. Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development training. Work under the supervision of a principal and certified teacher in a PASS classroom.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Ability to remain calm and de-escalate behavior intervening in crisis situations
- Some experience working with children/adolescents
- Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over)
- Frequent standing
- Kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Frequent walking and reaching
- Exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather
- Exposure to noise
- Exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
