Job Summary
Assist students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom by implementing instructional programs, managing behavior, and providing personal care such as feeding and hygiene. Help the teacher prepare materials, maintain classroom order, and keep administrative records while supervising students during lunch, bus, and playground duty. Provide physical support including transferring students to wheelchairs and assisting with mobility, while recognizing individual medical and emotional needs to adapt interactions accordingly. Maintain confidentiality and follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
- Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Some experience working with children
- Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over)
- Frequent standing
- Kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Frequent walking and reaching
- Exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather
- Exposure to noise
- Exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
