Job Summary
Assist special education teachers in implementing classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional needs for students with disabilities. Provide physical support by carrying students up to 53 pounds, climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling while maintaining emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions. Follow verbal and written instructions to manage disruptive behaviors and adhere to safety protocols regarding exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
- Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Basic first aid knowledge and CPR
- Prior experience working with children
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds
