Job Summary
Assist special education teachers in implementing classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. Help prepare instructional materials, maintain classroom order, manage equipment inventory, and keep administrative records. Support students with physical and emotional disabilities by assisting with transfers, personal care, and behavior de-escalation. Supervise students throughout the day in the classroom, lunchroom, and playground while ensuring safety and adherence to individual needs. Obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention certification and participate in staff development as assigned. Maintain confidentiality and work under the supervision of a principal and certified teacher.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Some experience working with children
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
- regular heavy lifting of students
- Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases
- Obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
